Nestled amid stone walls and forests of Western Massachusetts, Craigieburn Farm Alpacas is aptly named. In Scotland, a craigieburn is a rocky woods. We have 17 acres, many still wooded, in Shutesbury just outside of Amherst. Craigieburn is borrowed from the farm name of some of Susan’s relatives, who emigrated from Scotland to Canada in the 1800’s.
Craigieburn Farm specializes in alpacas with color. Our goal is to bring fineness and density of white alpacas into the colored animals. The growth of our small herd has been careful and deliberate, starting with our first purchase in June 2002. We have added animals from several well recognized lineages including Royal Fawn, Hemingway, Red Hot, Black Expresso, and Mr. President to name just a few. We boarded our animals in Texas for a few years until we could make the full time transition to our current farm in 2005.
It is our good fortune to be able to blend our love of animals and nature into our day-to-day life. We love to share our knowledge with visitors and offer our customers unlimited support. Please visit us and share our enthusiasm. Our farm store is also up and running, so you can see and feel the luxury of alpaca yarn and apparel items.
Our mission:
